About Darryl Handy

Founder & Lead Coach, Aperture Work

Darryl Handy has spent over two decades cultivating people across nonprofit, church, and leadership spaces. With a pastoral heart and a practical mind, he’s guided individuals and teams through seasons of growth, uncertainty, pain, transition, and calling.

Aperture Work emerged from that journey.

“I always want to see people as more than just minds to educate or workers to get the job done. I want to see people like God sees people—as full human beings, with emotions, stories, families and friends, hopes and dreams. For better or worse, when it helps or hurts, everyone is more than what our eyes see. So I try to treat people with dignity and make room for them to be all those things.”

We need more deep care in today’s workplaces, homes, and churches. Darryl founded Aperture Work to change that—offering coaching that strengthens people in their roles by supporting who they are as they lead.

“We don’t want to wait for people to flame out, burn out, or act out. We want to bolster the weary and strengthen the excellent, so they can thrive for the long haul.”

Today, Darryl leads every coaching engagement personally. As the vision grows, Aperture Work will become a home for other coaches who share this same foundation of relational care, thoughtful strategy, and lasting hope.

Our Philosophy at Aperture Work

People Are Not Just What They Produce

Aperture Work is rooted in a core belief: people flourish when they are truly seen—not just as workers or leaders, but as whole people. Too often, even mission-driven organizations reduce people to their output. That’s not sustainable. It’s not right. It dishonors the Maker of us all.

“I’ve seen it way too often. People are treated like hands to get the job done, wallets to give, or mouths to speak on behalf of a mission. In truth, they’re complex, gifted, image-bearing souls.”

Coaching at Aperture Work is not just about performance—it’s about perspective, purpose, and personal restoration. We listen deeply. We calibrate carefully. Like a camera aperture adjusting to let in just the right light, our coaching meets each person with the right rhythm, challenge, and care.

“Coaching with us is about helping people flourish as they become more fully themselves—not just more productive.”

Aperture Work is committed to helping people thrive not in spite of their humanity—but because of it.
